Dark Mode ?
Hello! I can't find an option to activate the "dark mode". Is there a way to have it without using an external extension?

Unfortunately, there's no dark mode on safebooru. Install the "Dark Reader" extension in order to change the color.

light mode gang rise up

seriously some people clearly have their brightness level set way too high on whatever screen they're using

Haha that's true I guess. Worst part is that Light mode technically is in the long term, a big help for vision health (not to be confused with eye strain)
If someone knew how to do front end javascript to add a 1st party cookie to like set if the user prefers dark mode or not then I would help out with the Dark mode CSS but eh. Waste of my time when it's going to be something I don't use.

I heard about that too. I presume because the contrast of text against the background in light themes is clearer than it is in dark ones?

I tend to find that it's harder to read text against a dark background either way personally (and well, given dark stylings also seem to absolutely love picking obnoxiously dark text colours too, that makes it worse...)

Dark mode can be beneficial
Dark mode can actually be beneficial to the eye sight due to it doesn't generate eye strain from long exposure. Light mode does though.

Pick your poison type of situation to be honest.
Either have an insanely bright screen and use Light mode at the cost of eye strain to have a chance to not have your eyes do a funny and keep growing causing you to see jack shit in the distance
Or pick dark mode and sleep a lot better at the cost of having to go outside a lot more often or do the unimaginable thing called taking breaks. (probably, I always use Light mode so don't know how dark would affect me, I use f.lux anyways so eh.)

the hate for light modes seem to come from people who sit in the dark too much
