What the hell has humor become nowadays? (rant)
I'm a Gen-Z but what in the actual hell is going on with memes? They're more and more short lived and they honestly are more and more desperate attempts at funny. Maybe I'm old as hell in my mind but I seriously think the humor that's present online more and more is deteriorating fast. I blame Tiktok and Youtube shorts for rotting the brains of everyone but eh. Maybe I can't keep up with the times like what our parents would say but there has to be someone else who agrees with me right? Post your opinion below. I'll be very glad to hear your vision on the matter. Because this is seriously getting depressing.
Oh and don't even get me started on the language people use. I don't think it's normal I'm forced to go check Urban dictionary to know what the hell someone is saying online.

Same.

"ong bussin finna FR FR only in ohio skill issue L W nuh uh boykisser" just wtf.

I'd say 2012-2014 was when things started to get bad, what with the whole MLP thing (and Minecraft/FNAF), smartphones finally beginning to replace ordinary mobiles, GamerGate, tumblrina/radical feminism/#MeToo culture... 2015/2016 was the final nail in the coffin when Discord destroyed all the old messageboards.

Thank Goodness. Im not the only one. Finally someone who is talking some sense. In my honest opinion I always thought that SNL sucked. Everything feels like it has lost it's flavor not just the humor. The animation styles, The music, etc. It feels like we're headed towards the dark ages of modern culture if we're not just already there.

Forgot to check here T_T sorry for late response.
What do you mean Discord destroyed all old message boards? What about MSN? What about Skype? Teamspeak?
Yeah sure maybe nowadays they're not as big as Discord is today but message boards were already heading down a slippery slope since a long time imo.
I personally think 2015/2016 were the last years before everything hit the fan so hard it's a complete mess. Then again my memory is shit so who knows.
I guess you could say that 2012-1014 was just the catalyst of what would be the future of humor, even if it was minor. I really don't think that's when humor actually started to be bad. There was still some good things.
What I'm really ranting about is the 202X humor specifically, because that's what I believe is when funny became dead. It feels like now memes are just random shit happening even more (it was already random-ish before but not AS random as now) and they get fucking boring within 1 day in my opinion and yet they don't die instantly (albeit, feels like memes are dying at least 10 times as fast.)
I completely blame short form video platforms for how we got here today. I guess the people would be to blame too. I've never went on Tiktok but every time I see people on it, feels like they became instantly brain dead, and when I overhear their phones (cause naturally these bloody idiots put their phone on max volume because... ????), just sounds like random gibberish to me. I actually cannot understand anything. If now, fall + gibberish + swear + random spinning object = funny then... Yeah I hope we all die by 2030.

Didn't know what SNL was so taking your word for it, seems like we don't have these types of shows here in the core of hell (France). You're making a fucking hell of a point with music. I completely forgot about this, may want to make a separate thread (or fuck it and talk about it here), I'm big on listening to music and it's true that... In my opinion there's quite a severe decline in quality. Also yes!! Of course!! Most people have shit speakers/headphones that have tons of bass!!!!! What do we do??? We put ONLY bass and low-mids in our songs!! Screw treble!!! It sounds like mashed potatoes but people like it!! Oh yeah and if we have some dude speaking in the song, makes sure he swears at least 6 times per sentence!!! Oh and if he doesn't articulate, who cares! Nobody cares about lyrics, they only want the beat that are present on every other fucking song in the planet!!!!

Internet humour always kind of was, it was just far more in an obviously 'edgy outsider' way that was only really 'got' by people who lurked enough: now it's like the Vine crowd's "humour" basically seeped into everyone's minds.

I still find it amazing how people like to pretend that things that they disagree with online shouldn't be promoted because 'it affects reality' and to 'protect everyone from seeing it' but then when confronted with things they like they just say 'we should spam it everywhere and make everyone see it' and then wonder why normies are invading and turning their spaces into radio-friendly versions of themselves.
