Many people had forgotten that Doc Edo actually referred to Alita as Gally. Doc didn't giver her that name. Alita was her original name. But, 300 years forward, at present, the only thing that the manga Doc Edo actually knew about the cyber girl, was that she was a pretty trophy.
The manga is a lot darker than the movie could protray, but I'm glad that they were careful of what details were important to keep and which details were best left out, to reach a wider audience.
