This car has been regarded as the first true Japanese supercar, the Toyota 2000GT continues to exhibit high popularity among car enthusiasts and exotic car collectors as a result of its important place in Japanese automotive history. With only a total of 337 models produced from 1967-1970, the car was in limited production and a result of a joint project between Yamaha Motor Corporation and Toyota. This car truly demonstrated to the world that Japanese cars could rival those in Europe in both performance and style.

The car's legacy was further established as important automotive figure, Carroll Shelby, entered a pair of 2000GT's in SCCA late 60s races. A pair of convertible models were produced solely for the purposes of the film industry in the 1967 James Bond movie, You Only Live Twice. Sean Connery was of too tall a stature for the small Japanese car, so special work was done to make the car practical for the purposes of filming, keep the car stylish, and enjoy the same performance.
