Kris and Leaf are pretty much non-existent in the games' canon because they don't have color names, they don't have common names, they're named after the remakes they debuted in, and they're not supporting characters.

Kris is not from a remake. Kris is introduced in Crystal, as in the second Gen.'s 3rd game. She is the first female protagonist. Kotone/Lyra is the remake character. Kris wasn't in HG/SS because those are remakes of Gold and Silver, who didn't have a female main character. They did, in the tradition of FireRed/LeafGreen, include many of the story elements introduced in Crystal, such as Suicune appearing in various parts of the story.

I think they replaced Kris with Lyra because of the blue hair, because no other Game Freak/Creatures developed game other than Crystal has blue haired player characters. Now let's talk about Leaf! :D
